I work at a college library and tonight I got out late. The reference librarian walked by and asked where my ride was to which I replied on her way. She told me to make sure I stay under the streetlights before leaving. Seconds after she left, a guy walked up and said hi and shook my hand and introduced himself. He asked my name, where I lived, what my major is, and generally odd questions to ask a girl standing in a parking lot in the dark. He continued to ask me a lot of personal questions until he saw my ring and said “Nice ring. You engaged or something?” I told him yes so he would leave me the fuck alone. And he walked away. There were so many things wrong with this situation and I feel uncomfortable about it. Since I started working at the library a lot if dudes have hit on me from about 18 to at least 50, one of them going so far as asking if he could ‘proposition’ me. My immediate reaction to cis guys anymore is uneasiness and distrust.
Can I live here?
Oh, yes please
